Battery Magic Eye Principle and Usage Guide
Battery Safety Valve (also known as a vent valve, pressure relief valve, or release valve) is a critical safety component in lead-acid batteries-particularly in valve-regulated sealed lead-acid batteries (such as VRLA, AGM, and GEL types). It is used to regulate internal pressure and prevent damage or hazards caused by overpressure.
During charging, hydrogen and oxygen gases are generated inside the battery (due to the electrolysis of water), which causes internal pressure to rise.
The safety valve automatically opens when the pressure exceeds a preset threshold, releasing excess gas to prevent battery swelling or explosion.
Once the pressure returns to normal, the valve automatically closes, minimizing the ingress of external air and helping prevent electrolyte evaporation.
The safety valve is typically a one-way valve, allowing internal gas to escape while preventing outside air from entering.
This reduces self-discharge and oxidation of the electrolyte.
The valve maintains a sealed environment under normal operating conditions, reducing water loss and extending battery life.
Commonly found in conventional lead-acid batteries (such as automotive starter batteries).
Simple structure, made of flexible rubber; the cap lifts to release gas when internal pressure is high, and reseals by elasticity when the pressure drops.
Mainly used in valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries.
Consists of a spring, valve core, and sealing ring, with a preset opening pressure (typically 5-30 kPa).
When the pressure exceeds the threshold, the spring compresses, and the valve opens to release gas; it automatically resets as the pressure decreases.
