Outer structure
The external structure of the gas relay is shown in Figures 1, 2, 3, and 4; it consists of an internal float and two magnetic switches C and D. When the switch is closed, the alarm signal or the cut-off signal is output through the wiring terminals.
Working principle
When the transformer is operating normally, the inside of the gas relay is filled with transformer oil. When a fault occurs inside the transformer, the gas generated by the decomposition of the transformer oil accumulates in the gas chamber of the relay. The air pressure forces the oil level to drop, and the float drops with the oil level, and the magnetic switch C or D is pulled in. The magnetic switch C is pulled in, the signal circuit is connected, and an alarm signal is issued. If the oil level in the oil tank drops due to other reasons (such as oil leakage, etc.), it also acts on the signal circuit and sends an alarm signal. When a serious fault occurs inside the transformer, a large amount of gas will be generated, causing the oil level to drop seriously. At this time, the magnetic switch D is pulled in, the transformer is cut off from the power grid, and a cut-off signal is issued.
